Christmas Time the Holiday of Lights.

Yes, the season to be Jolly is also the season of bright colored lights and flickering candles. What is better than to have those flickering candles to be also scented. We have some awesome scents for this time of the season. Some of our favorites are a mixture of both old and new ones here at Papa’s Candle Shoppe.

One of our new scents is Frankincense and Myrrh; this one is very sweet, and more perfume scented.  A very calming fragrance of frankincense with a mixture of myrrh. Very light and airy. This scent has quickly become a favorite of our customers. It is surprising how fast these are flying off the shelf.

Our Christmas Tree scent is an aroma that we have carried for a few years now.    This soy candle captures the magic of Christmas morning all season long with a delightful pine aroma and sweet undertones.

Chris from Taylorsville, UT says   Awesome!

I wanted a Christmas tree smell, and this is beyond what I imagined!

Memories of a Christmas past is what this scent brings to mind. Nights in front of the fireplace snuggled up with the one you love. Smelling the fragrance of fir and pine with earthy smokiness all packed in this soy candle. It is no wonder that we sell a lot of these great candles this time of the year.

So as you enjoy the flickering lights and the fantastic aromas of Papa’s Candle Shoppe candles this season, let’s remember our family and friends but most of all the reason for this season, Our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ.

What is Soy Wax?

Soy wax has become extremely popular among candle makers for its ability to easily infuse fragrances and mix well with other waxes. Like beeswax, soy wax is completely renewable and can be produced almost anywhere. Soy wax is fun to work with, burns cleanly and is perfect for candles of all shapes and sizes.

While beeswax is renewable and a great wax for candle making, in the past it was considered expensive compared to mass-produced waxes made from other materials including paraffin - a byproduct of petroleum production. This led to experiments using plant-based sources including palm, coconut, and soybean to produce wax. Using these all-natural materials provided the affordable source of wax candle makers, and others had been waiting for. Soy wax is now used in all types of products including lip balm, soaps, cosmetics, and, of course, soy candles!

The process of making soy wax begins with harvesting soybeans, cleaning and de-shelling them. Then, they must be pressed and rolled into flakes, which can be used to extract the soybean oils. The soybean oil must then be put through a process called hydrogenation. This process transforms the soybean oils into a solid wax that can be used for candles. Adding hydrogen bonds to the soy wax greatly increases the melting point allowing it to maintain a solid structure at room temperature and burn slowly when introduced to a flame. Now, you have your soy wax!

If you would like to make your own scented soy wax candles, you will need to heat your soy wax flakes to 155 degrees. Before heating the wax, include your color sticks (or food coloring). Once the wax has been heated, place your favorite scents into the wax and stir until the temperature drops to 115 degrees (Stir gently to avoid creating bubbles in the wax). Ensure your wicks are centered in your candle jars as you pour your soy wax and let them rest at least three days before burning. This allows the scents to infuse fully into the candle and “seasons” them for maximum aroma and the longest possible burn times.

Making your soy wax candles at home can be extremely rewarding. Whether you are interested in candles or lip balm, you can be confident that you’re using the cleanest, most natural products possible. Check out our soy wax candle starter kits for making your candles at home.

Best Soy Candles for Fall

It’s that time of year again! The leaves are changing colors, the weather is getting pleasantly cool, and all things pumpkin and spice are back in style. We absolutely love fall! There are so many amazing smells associated with this season that makes for great candle scents. Of course, while a fall scented candle is great, a fall scented soy candle is even better. Soy candles have so many advantages over traditional candles. They burn cleaner, last longer, are biodegradable and water soluble, so it’s no wonder that soy candles have seen such a surge in popularity. However, with so many scent options for this season, choosing the right candle for you can be challenging. Below are some of our pics for the best-scented soy candles for this fall.

Hot Apple Pie

Fall is, basically, one giant weeklong celebration of the best-baked goods and desserts ever made. Of course, always an American favorite is Apple Pie. While this candle may not have a buttery flaky crust or sweet apple filling, it does give off a beautiful spiced apple scent that will make your home smell like you’ve been baking apple pies for hours.

Cranberry Marmalade

Another autumn staple, no home would be complete without some cranberry flavored or scented candles. Thankfully, we have just the candle to do the trick. This cranberry marmalade scented candle has all the deep spice smells that you expect from a fall candle but with the added tang of cranberry that defines this time of year. If you’re looking for a journey of a candle experience, we highly recommend this cranberry favorite.

Gingerbread House

We would be making a huge mistake if we did not include something gingerbread scented on this list. Nothing quite compares to the sweet and savory combination that makes gingerbread cookies so delightful this time of year. Just like our apple pie candle, this gingerbread house scent makes your home smell like you’ve been baking up a storm with notes of gingersnaps and caramelized sugar lingering in the background.

Pumpkin Soufflé

Last, but certainly not least, is our pumpkin soufflé scented candle. This candle features the quintessential scent for the fall season, the pumpkin. It’s hard to describe how this candle smells, except to say that it mixes the natural freshness that you can smell when picking a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch with the rich and sweet scents that you associate with pumpkin spice desserts and drinks. Just like a soufflé, this candle has a delicate and rich scent that you have to experience for yourself.

As you can see, there are quite a few options for which scented candles you can get this season. There are so many, in fact, that we couldn’t possibly include all of them on this list. We have an entire library of scented candles to make sure that there is a candle for every taste and preference, whether you like sweet, spice or somewhere in between. Check out Papa’s Candle Shoppe for more candle suggestions for the fall season.
